Prototyping a spinning adsorber submerged filter for continuous removal of wastewater contaminants

چکیده

Adsorption process is widely used for the removal of wastewater contaminants. Classic adsorption units are fixed beds and membrane filtration systems. In this work a novel configuration bench scale spinning adsorber submerged filter proposed. Different prototypes cylindric, truncated cone or prismatic adsorbers were studied using activated carbon different particle sizes GAC (1.5 mm, Granulated), ?GAC (0.475 microGranulated), cPAC (0.237 coarse Powder) as adsorbent, azorubine model adsorbate. High maximum adsorptions per unit mass adsorbent 214, 225 275 mg/g GAC, cPAC, respectively, obtained Langmuir isotherm model. Batch followed pseudo-second order kinetics, adsorbate uptake rate increased with decreasing size. Best was tank equipped rectangular prism prototype all made stainless-steel woven wire 180 mesh Running at 600 rpm filled high concentration (25 g/L), can remove similar rates that use free moving cPAC. Adsorber run in continuous mode works even better where filtered flow exits from central pipe axis. This integrated adsorption-submerged operation offer possibility adding initial dose dosing tank, increasing unit. system also opportunities contaminants materials located separately.

Supported Photocatalyst for Removal of Emerging Contaminants from Wastewater in a Continuous Packed-Bed Photoreactor Configuration

Water pollution from emerging contaminants (ECs) or emerging pollutants is an important environmental problem. Heterogeneous photocatalytic treatment, as advanced oxidation treatment of wastewater effluents, has been proposed to solve this problem. In this paper, a heterogeneous photocatalytic process was studied for emergent contaminants removal using paracetamol as a model contaminant molecul...

Performance of Continuous Electrocoagulation Process for Turbidity Removal from Sand Filter Backwash Water

The presence of particles such as algae, clay, organic materials and water-soluble substances often create turbidity or color in water. In recent years, electrocoagulation process has attracted an extensive attention due to its advantages. Since sand filters are widely used in water treatment industry and their corresponding backwash water is large in volume, turbidity removal will save water c...

Assessment of a Continuous Electrocoagulation on Turbidity Removal from Spent Filter Backwash Water

Background & Aims of the Study: Spent filter backwash water (SFBW) consists of 1-5% of the total treated water typically and it has a high turbidity. Because of the scarcity of water resources and in order to prevent the environmental contamination, effluent treatment of rapid sand filter backwashing is unavoidable. One of the new technologies for removal of turbidity from the ...

Atrazine removal from aqueous solutions using submerged biological aerated filter

Atrazine is widely used in the agriculture as an herbicide. Due to its high mobility, Atrazine leaks into the groundwaters, surface waters, and drinking water wells. Many physical and chemical methods have been suggested for removing Atrazine from aquatic environments. However, these methods are very costly, have many performance problems, produce a lot of toxic intermediates which are very har...

The Study of Organic Removal Efficiency and Membrane Fouling in a Submerged Membrane Bioreactor Treating Vegetable Oil Wastewater

The characterizations of vegetable oil wastewater (VOW) are unpleasant odor, dark color, and high organic contents, including large amounts of oil and grease (O&G), chemical oxygen demand (COD), fatty acids and lipids. Therefore, VOWs should be treated efficiently to avoid the environment pollution. The aim of present study was the investigation of VOW biological treatment using membrane biorea...
